Barstow’s Montara Elementary School has been nationally recognized by Solution Tree as a “Promising Practices Professional Learning Community at Work.”
Montara, in the Barstow Unified School District, earned the award, which celebrates the school’s commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement and ensuring high levels of learning for every student.
The recognition was formally presented to Montara Elementary School during the school district’s 2026–2027 “Welcome Back Celebration” on July 30.
Representatives from Solution Tree joined district leaders and staff in recognizing Montara’s progress and presenting the school with its Promising Practices certificate and Professional Learning Community at Work banner.
Montara Elementary serves students in transitional kindergarten through fourth grade.
“This recognition belongs to our entire Montara team,” Principal Robert Dominguez said. “Our teachers and staff have made a commitment to work collaboratively, examine evidence of student learning, respond when students need additional support, and continually improve our instructional practices.”
Dominguez added that he is incredibly proud of how far the school has come, but even more excited about where they are going.
“We believe every student can learn at high levels, and our work must reflect that belief every day,” Dominguez said.
Dominguez added the elementary school receiving national recognition does not mean they’ve crossed the finish line.
“Being recognized as a Promising Practices school confirms that the systems we are building are making a difference,” Dominguez said. “Our next responsibility is to deepen those practices, strengthen our results, and continue moving toward becoming a model Professional Learning Community.”
