The National Weather Service says the mid-Hudson Valley will see a weekend that begins with storms before ending with mostly sunny skies, as wildfire smoke hangs over the region.
There is an 80 percent chance of rain on July 18 in Orange, Dutchess, Sullivan and Ulster counties, and a thunderstorm could strike the region after 2 p.m.
There could be one-quarter to one-half of an inch of rain in Orange County, and one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch of rain in Dutchess and Ulster counties.
Winds across the region will be from the south at 5 to 10 mph, and there could be gusts in excess of 20 mph in Orange, Dutchess and Ulster counties.
Smoke due to wildfires in Canada is expected to linger across parts of New York through the end of the week, with patchy wildfire smoke possible through Saturday.
High temperatures will be in the mid-80s in Dutchess and Ulster counties, and right around 80 in Orange and Sullivan counties.
The 80 percent chance of showers continues into the night on July 18, and it increases to 90 percent in Sullivan County.
There is a chance of another thunderstorm across the region before 2 a.m.
An additional one-half to three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected in Dutchess County, while another one-quarter to one-half of an inch of rain is possible in Orange and Ulster counties.
Overnight lows will be in the mid-60s in all four counties.
On July 19, there is a 30 percent chance of showers before 8 a.m. in Orange and Sullivan counties. After that, the day will be mostly sunny in all four counties, with daytime high temperatures in the mid-80s in Dutchess and Ulster counties, the low 80s in Orange County and the upper 70s in Sullivan County.
The night of July 19 will be mostly clear in all four counties, with overnight lows in the upper 50s in Orange, Dutchess and Ulster counties, and the mid-50s in Sullivan County.
