Churchville-Chili’s first touchdown of the 2025 season came with its offense on the sideline.
Midway through the fourth quarter, with the Saints trailing Brockport 14-0, junior defensive back Zyon Beachum hauled in an interception and returned it 83 yards for a score. The play occurred on a fourth-and-13 from Churchville-Chili’s 32-yard line.
Beachum was the lone cornerback on his side of the formation. He stepped in front of Brockport quarterback Mason Scott’s pass, intended for Ayden Matthews, and weaved his way through several would-be tacklers on his way to the end zone.
The Saints nearly forced a three-and-out on Brockport’s ensuing offensive possession, but a penalty on fourth down — with the Blue Devils set to punt — extended an eventual scoring drive. Brockport went on to win 28-7, capping the game with its own defensive touchdown in the final seconds.
Churchville-Chili (0-1) plays at Wilson Magnet next Friday, Sept. 12, while Brockport (1-0) travels to East High.
