Every week, readers cast votes for the lohud Ice Hockey Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.
Last week, with four players nominated, Brewster senior Patrick Vaughan, the BYSNS goalie, won after shutting out Cortlandt and, recording several huge saves, helped his team to a 3-2 win over Mahopac.
He joined previous winners Winston Speros of Pelham, Hank Hearon of Fox Lane and Cam White of Pelham.
This week, coaches have nominated 12 athletes for the award for their play Jan. 5-11. Highlights of their play appear below. You may vote as many times as you like and for as many players as you like. The poll will end at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the winner announced on lohud sports social media.
Brendan Asta, Horace Greeley/John Jay-Cross River
The John Jay-Cross River senior forward had a big week scoring and adding two assists in a 7-4 win over Byram Hills and tallying a hat trick with two assists in a 7-3 win over Mount Pleasant.
Alex Benveniste, ETBE/New Ro
The senior forward from Eastchester scored twice, had an assist and had two blocked shots in a loss to North Rockland.
Declan Curry, Mount Pleasant
The Pleasantville senior forward accumulated five goals and three assists over an 8-2 win over Monroe-Woodbury and a 7-5 win over Mamaroneck.
Saxon Frank, Rivertown
The senior forward from Irvington netted five goals and had three assists in the Legends’ 8-2 win over Brewster/Yorktown/Somers/North Salem and had a hat trick and two assists in an 11-2 win over Rye Town/Harrison.
Billy Haggerty, Iona Prep
The senior forward had a hat trick and two assists in the Gaels’ 7-2 win over No. 3 Suffern and earlier in the week scored four times in Iona Prep’s 10-0 win over Monsignor Farrell.
Joseph Intravaia, Carmel
The senior forward had a hat trick and a goal in a 6-4 loss to Cortlandt.
Buddy Meiselman, Scarsdale
The senior goalie had 24 saves in a 4-2 win over White Plains before coming up huge multiple times in stopping 45 shots in a 3-1 win over Amity Regional.
James Munoz, BYSNS
The senior forward/defenseman from Brewster had seven goals and five assists as the Bisons won two of three games in a three-day span.
Reeve Murrell, Pelham
The senior forward had a goal and an assist in a 2-2 tie with Rye and had a five-point game with two goals and three assists in an 11-3 win over Mamaroneck.
Colin Nigro, Rye
The sophomore forward scored in a 2-2 tie with Pelham, buried five goals in a 7-4 win over Massena and had a goal in a 4-0 win over Canton.
Sean Tyrrell, Suffern
The senior forward had a hat trick an an assist as Suffern recorded a huge bounce-back win with a 6-3 victory over Bishop Hendricken, the current top-ranked Rhode Island team and defending Rhode Island state champion.
Zach Yoon, Byram Hills
The sophomore forward scored three times and had two assists as the Bobcats upset BYSNS 6-5.
