Whole Foods soup recalled over undeclared shrimp allergen. What to know

Soup sold by Whole Foods has been recalled due to an undeclared allergen, posing a risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if consumed.

Manufacturer Kettle Cuisine this week announced a recall of Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup due to the possibility that the soup may contain shrimp not declared on the packaging, according to a notice posted on the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website on May 21.

Customers allergic to crustacean shellfish, such as shrimp, and consume the soup could experience an allergic reaction.

No illnesses tied to the recalled soup have been reported, according to the FDA.

Which Whole Foods product was recalled?

Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup, packaged in 24-ounce, clear plastic cups, was recalled. The product’s packaging is marked with the following:

Where was the recalled Whole Foods soup sold?

Soups were sold online nationwide through the Whole Foods and Amazon websites, but were distributed at Whole Foods retail locations in Washington D.C. and 17 states, including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

What to do if you bought the recalled Whole Foods soup?

Customers who purchased the recalled soup should return it to the store or via the website for a full refund, according to the notice. Call Kettle Cuisine’s customer service line with any questions at (617) 409-1100, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

There are 36 Whole Foods Market stores in New York state, with roughly half of those stores located within New York City. You can use the store locator tool to find your closest Whole Food Market.

In all, the company operates more than 530 stores within the United States, with the most stores located in California (93 stores.) New York state ranks third on the list of states with the most Whole Food markets, alongside Texas.
