Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton showered praise on New York Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy during a recent appearance on the Talkin’ Ball with Pat Leonard podcast from Super Bowl radio row.
Thornton, who played under Nagy in Kansas City’s explosive passing scheme last season, highlighted Nagy’s aggressive approach with the acronym “AAF.”
“I’m just going to say: ‘AAF.’ Matt Nagy knows what I’m talking about. AAF,” Thornton said. “He’s very aggressive. I love his mindset and what he brings to the table. I’m excited to see what he brings to New York. I love him.”
The 25-year-old Thornton thrived in Nagy’s system after joining the Chiefs, leading the NFL with a 23.1 yards-per-catch average in 2025. He recorded 19 receptions for 438 yards and three touchdowns, including a standout performance against the Giants in Week 3: Five catches for 71 yards and a score at MetLife Stadium.
“It was a great experience to play in New York,” he said. “I remember Coach Reid telling us there’s nothing better to do but in New York on a [Sunday] night. And I remember just going out there and trying to be electric and go out there and light the stadium up. What a great stadium in New York. Love the atmosphere.”
Thornton credited Nagy for instilling confidence and allowing him to “let my light shine and make plays.”
As an impending unrestricted free agent, Thornton — a speedy deep threat with a 4.28 40-yard dash — could be an intriguing fit for the Giants. The team needs one or two more wide receivers to bolster quarterback Jaxson Dart’s options, especially with Malik Nabers recovering from a major knee injury and Wan’Dale Robinson hitting free agency.
Thornton’s familiarity with Nagy’s scheme, which unlocks explosive plays through “eye candy” motions and playmakers, makes him a sensible low-cost target to add vertical stretch and return ability.
Thornton expressed fondness for playing in New York and hinted at openness to a move. With Nagy now running the Giants’ offense after time under Andy Reid, a reunion could benefit both sides as Thornton seeks more opportunities to showcase his skills.
