President Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver a prime-time address to the nation Thursday, July 16, during which he says he will discuss “free and fair elections.”
Speaking with reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump said he plans to make a “very big announcement” during the speech.
When radio host Hugh Hewitt asked for a preview, Trump compared the address to speeches he delivered at Mount Rushmore on July 3 and at the National Mall on July 4 during the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“It’s just going to be a speech like a lot of my speeches,” Trump said. “We do pretty well in that regard.”
What time is Trump’s address tonight?
Trump is scheduled to deliver his address at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 16.
Why is Trump addressing the nation?
The White House has not released additional details about the speech. Trump said it will focus on “free and fair elections” and include what he described as a “very big announcement.”
“I’d rather save it, but it’s really big news,” Trump told reporters July 14 in the Oval Office. “It’s really, really big news, and our country has to shape up. That’s what we’re going to be talking about Thursday. It doesn’t get bigger because without free and fair elections, you don’t have a country.”
“We’ll be discussing other things, too, but it will be a very big announcement,” he added.
How to watch Trump’s address
Trump’s address is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET and is expected to be carried live by major television news networks and their streaming platforms. Additional streaming coverage is expected on the White House’s official digital channels.
