According to the National Day calendar, Americans eat an average of 23 pounds of pizza per person each year. So with National Pizza Day landing on Feb. 9, the question isn’t if you’ll celebrate — it’s where.
With pizzerias making up 17% of all restaurants — and no shortage of Italian spots across Westchester and Rockland — there’s no lack of places to grab a slice. The tougher call? Toppings. Pepperoni still wears the crown, chosen 36% of the time, per the National Day site.
Then there’s the option of going thematic, particularly this time of year. Think a football-shaped pie for the Super Bowl (shout-out to Pizza Barn in Yonkers and Russo’s in Pearl River). According to Restaurantware, pizza accounts for 60% of Super Bowl takeout orders, outpacing wings (50%) and subs (20%).
Or, you can choose a heart-shaped version for Valentine’s Day (with standouts like Gino’s Pizzeria in Yonkers and The Pie Man in Valley Cottage). After all, what’s not to love about pizza?
What follows is a curated list of the Lower Hudson Valley’s pizza scene. It’s not everyone (that would take forever), but it’s plenty to get you started.
