The New York Giants couldn’t complete a season sweep of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, falling by a score of 38-20 at Lincoln Financial Field. But that wasn’t even the worst of it for Big Blue.
Haunted by poor officiating and the season-ending injury to rookie running back Cam Skattebo, the Giants fall to 2-6 on the season and now have to consider the year over. They’ll do what they can to develop rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart over the final nine games, but any lingering hopes of a resurgence and playoff appearance are dead.
Next week, they host the San Francisco 49ers at MetLife Stadium.
Here’s a look at whose stock is up and whose is down after Week 8 of the regular season.
Stock up: RB Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the second quarter and, with his foot facing the wrong direction, attempted to rally his teammates from the back of a cart. There were no tears, no woe-is-me, just the hard-headed, aggressive leadership we’ve seen from Skatt this season. He’s going to be missed dearly.
Also, let’s give credit to Skatt for his brilliant route-running earlier in the game. That deserves a shout.
Stock down: NFL officials
These spots are generally relegated to Giants players or coaches alone, but the officiating crew from Sunday’s game deserves to be shamed. They were unbelievably atrocious, and it should not only warrant an NFL apology, but it should result in suspensions and/or fines. If players can be fined or disciplined for anything from bang-bang plays to post-game comments, referees should also be held accountable when they’re so blatantly incorrect that even rules analysts admit in real-time they got it wrong.
Stock up: QB Jaxson Dart
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is in an unenviable position. He’s already without wide receiver Malik Nabers and is now without Skattebo, and he also had to operate without wide receiver Darius Slayton for two weeks. There is very little play-making talent around him, and yet somehow, he continues to push the ball down the field. On Sunday, he completed 14 of his 24 pass attempts (several dropped) for 193 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 17 yards and an additional score. It wasn’t always pretty, but he’s making something, however little it may be, out of nothing.
Stock down: TE Theo Johnson
Speaking of drops, tight end Theo Johnson may be plagued. He caught three of his four targets for 20 yards in Week 8, but that lone drop was a big one. Late in the second quarter on third-and-6, Dart put the ball in the absolutely perfect spot for Johnson to make a big play. It would have set the Giants up in an and-goal situation, but instead, the ball bounced right off the tight end’s fingers. It can’t continue to happen.
Stock up: LB Brian Burns
The FOX Sports broadcast repeatedly stated linebacker Brian Burns had recorded two sacks in the game, but that was inaccurate. Still, hobbled by ankle and hip injuries, the veteran battled for 60 full minutes, recording four tackles (two solo, one for a loss), one QB hit, and his 10th sack of the season. He is tied with Myles Garrett for the league lead.
Stock down: S Tyler Nubin
After a promising rookie campaign, safety Tyler Nubin has taken a significant step back in 2025. He consistently takes bad angles to the ball-carried and lacks the speed required to make up for it. Against the Eagles, he watched running back Saquon Barkley jet right passed him for a 65-yard score on the opening drive of the game. Unfortunately for Nubin, nothing he does in coverage makes up for these lapses — lapses that cost the Giants weekly.
