UTICA ― The Proctor Raiders spotted Liverpool a 21-0 lead in the first quarter Saturday and wound up on the short end of a 42-14 score in their home opener at D’Alessandro Stadium.
Senior quarterback John Sindoni threw four touchdown passes for Liverpool’s unbeaten Legends (3-0), including two in the first quarter that helped give the visitors their controlling lead.
Sindoni, who has now thrown 10 touchdown passes this season and 61 in a career that includes 31 last fall, connected with four receivers on scoring passes Saturday and had two more touchdowns nullified by penalties. He threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Dalton Loguidice on Liverpool’s initial possession and scrambled 5 yards for a touchdown on the second. The Legends got the ball back when lineman Cole Henning intercepted a pass, and Sindoni threw 19 yards to Nico Leone for his second touchdown pass.
Sindoni’s other touchdowns were 13 yards to Amari Gunn and 41 to Daxton Archer in the third quarter. The Legends had a touchdown pass and touchdown run called back on back-to-back plays in their scoreless second quarter, and a second scoring pass to Archer was negated in the fourth quarter before Alle Rivera ran 35 yards to score on the following snap.
Shaking off the shock of a fast Liverpool start, the Raiders (1-2) took possession at their own 13-yard line late in the first quarter and drove into the second when Wyatt Robinson III threw a 29-yard touchdown pass of his own to Lashawn Jasper cutting across the middle of the Liverpool defense.
Dennis Allen added a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Jai Phillips’ two-point run had the Raiders within 14 points at 28-14.
Proctor goes back on the road for next week’s game at West Genesee and return home for an October 4 game against Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse. Like the Raiders, West Genesee’s Wildcats (1-2) have lost consecutive games after starting the season with a win.
Rome Free Academy 20, Baldwinsville 14
Mark Barone ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third Friday in the Rome Free Academy Black Knights’ 20-14 victory at Baldwinsville.
Rome Free Academy (2-1) led 7-0 at halftime on a touchdown pass from Barone to junior classmate Luke Hammon. Barone’s touchdown runs came before and after a Baldwinsville turnover in the third quarter and gave the Black Knights a 20-0 lead entering the fourth.
Baldwinsville (0-3) scored twice in the fourth quarter but could not complete a comeback.
Rome Free Academy plays on the road again in Week 4 at Cicero-North Syracuse.
