Should the Nets consider Heat's Andrew Wiggins in NBA free-agency?

The Brooklyn Nets have the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft so they should be able to add a talented player to the roster ahead of the 2026-27 season. Brooklyn is likely to made moves to significantly improve the team and with the expectation that they will have enough cap space to be players in free-agency, could the Nets consider adding a veteran wing?

“Wiggins, 31, remains a productive two-way player through a long career that started as the No. 1 overall pick in 2013. He played a key role in the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 NBA championship,” Eric Pincus wrote of Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins when discussing the 2026 free-agent class. Wiggins could return to the Heat as the team is looking to win a championship, but if he wants a raise, the Nets could be a factor for him.

“If he can get the Heat to recommit, perhaps that includes opting out to sign for longer at a better rate for the team, locking in more guaranteed salary. He can explore unrestricted free agency,” Pincus continued. “Teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Brooklyn Nets could all use wings. Or, the most likely outcome is that Wiggins may choose to opt in to explore free agency in 2027.”

Wiggins is coming off a solid season for the Heat as he averaged 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and 41.4% from behind the three-point line. Wiggins has a player option for the 2026-27 campaign worth $30.1 million and after making $28.2 million this past season, he’ll probably exercise that option.

But, if Wiggins declines his player option, the Nets could bring him to Brooklyn to help an offense that was the worst in the league in terms of offensive rating. The Nets could practically free up around $48 million in salary cap space and if someone like Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves isn’t available, Wiggins could be the kind of guy that Brooklyn could depend on next season.
