The New York Giants are seeking help in the secondary this offseason, and so far, they’ve added three safeties (Jason Pinnock, Elijah Campbell, and Ar’Darius Washington) but have signed just one cornerback (Greg Newsome II).
Many observers feel that more is needed at cornerback. The Giants have Paulson Adebo as their No. 1, and Newsome, hopefully, can be their No. 2. The others on the roster are either inexperienced or unproven.
This past week, the Tennessee Titans released L’Jarius Sneed, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, after two injury-riddled seasons. Sneed was dealt to the Titans from the Chiefs in 2024 and inked to a four-year, $76 million extension. He never lived up to the deal.
He is likely to garner some interest in the free agent market despite playing in just 12 games for the Titans in his two seasons there due to a quadriceps injury. The word is, Sneed is working hard to get healthy. Until he does, his phone won’t be blowing up with offers.
The question is, will the Giants kick the tires on Sneed? Probably not.
Sneed would have to prove to them that he is healthy, and after the Maxx Crosby fiasco, NFL teams have hung out the “caveat emptor” sign on any transaction containing injured players.
That’s a shame. Sneed was once considered one of the top corners in the NFL while with Kansas City. He was a huge factor and contributor on those repeat Super Bowl championship teams.
The Giants still need depth at corner and will continue to seek it. Sneed, unfortunately, doesn’t appear to be a viable option
