New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo delivered a heart-stopping moment for fans on Saturday at Fanatics Fest in New York City when he attempted a backflip during a WWE-style entrance and failed to stick the landing.
The second-year back, still working his way back from a season-ending leg injury in 2025 that included a dislocated right ankle, open tibia fracture, and ruptured deltoid ligament, pointed to his surgically repaired leg before launching into the acrobatic move.
Upon landing, Skattebo lost his balance and fell backward awkwardly, sparking immediate concern among observers.
Undeterred, the former Arizona State standout quickly got to his feet, clapped aggressively and celebrated as if the mishap had not occurred. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, drew a mix of reactions, with many Giants supporters expressing alarm given his recovery status and the proximity of training camp.
This was not Skattebo’s first backflip attempt since surgery; he successfully completed one during a charity softball game in May. While he appeared unharmed and continued participating in other athletic activities at the event, the clip has prompted discussions about player caution during rehabilitation.
Skattebo showed promise as a rookie before the injury, rushing for 410 yards and scoring seven total touchdowns in limited action.
As the Giants prepare for the 2026 season under head coach John Harbaugh, fans and the organization will hope such displays do not lead to setbacks.
