Report: Bills had interest in interviewing another new NFL head coach, but did not

The Buffalo Bills eventually hired Joe Brady as their next head coach after firing previous bench boss Sean McDermott.

Brady was promoted from the offensive coordinator position on McDermott’s coaching but the team did interview outside candidates… but reportedly the Bills did not speak to all such candidates that they hoped to.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Buffalo had interest in a potential candidate that ending being hired by another NFL team.

The Las Vegas Raiders tabbed Klint Kubiak as their next head coach. Reportedly the Bills had interest in talking to Kubiak but did not. Why?

Per Breer, because the Seattle Seahawks made the Super Bowl, the Bills did not want to deal with the time they’d have to wait to hire Kubiak… or even speak to him.

Plus, in the end, Brady impressed enough in his own right.

Breer’s full breakdown on the Kubiak interest can be found below:

The Bills also had an interest in Kubiak, but figured it’d be unfair to everyone to wait until after the Super Bowl to interview him—by rule, because the Bills missed the first window to interview him, they couldn’t talk to him until after the Seahawks’ season ended.
