U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced two charges against the alleged White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter at the Washington Hilton.
Pirro announced the charges Sunday, April 25, at a DC press conference along with the DC mayor, Secret Service director and FBI officials. Pirro was the first woman elected to the Westchester County Court in 1991 and served three terms as Westchester County district attorney between 1994 and 2005.
“Right now, the defendant is being charged with two counts 924C using a firearm during a crime of violence and a second crime under 111, which is assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon,” Pirro said.
U.S. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Sunday said the gunman who opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner appears to have targeted President Donald Trump and officials in his administration.
“It does appear that he did, in fact, set out to target folks that work in the administration, likely including the president,” Blanche said in an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” adding that authorities are still investigating the suspect’s motive.
The man taken into custody in connection with the shooting has not been identified officially by authorities, but a federal law enforcement official familiar with the investigation told USA TODAY on April 26 that he is Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation being conducted by the FBI, Secret Service and other agencies.

President Trump says King Charles visit will go ahead
In an interview on Fox News on Sunday morning, President Trump said an upcoming state visit with King Charles III would continue as planned.
“King Charles is coming, and he’s a great guy, and we look forward to it,” Trump said.
Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, are due to arrive in the U.S. on Monday for a four-day visit that includes a formal White House dinner and speech by the king to Congress.
The visit is expected to include time in New York City, where the king and queen are expected to meet with first responders and families of victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
While in New York, the king will visit a grassroots community organization that mentors children and young people affected by food insecurity through a sustainable urban farming after-school program, reflecting his longtime interest in environmental and social causes.
Queen Camilla will attend an event celebrating the countries’ shared love of literature, including A.A. Milne’s Winnie‑the‑Pooh stories, which mark their 100th anniversary this year.
