The New York Jets have spent the offseason preparing for the second season of a new era under head coach Aaron Glenn. That process has centered on building chemistry, installing new systems, and helping veteran quarterback Geno Smith settle into his second stint with the organization.
A recent legal development removes one potential distraction from that process. According to ESPN, citing confirmation from the Davie (Fla.) Police Department, the investigation involving Smith is no longer active.
Smith has not publicly commented on the matter, and the Jets have not issued a public statement. The NFL can, down the road, conduct its own investigation, but for now, the Jets’ signal caller is expected to be at training camp.
Attention shifts back to the Jets’ season ahead
For now, however, the immediate legal process has concluded, allowing attention to return to football. Smith enters the 2026 season as New York’s starting quarterback after returning to the franchise in a March trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Jets originally drafted Smith during the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in New York, crafting a 12-18 record. He is expected to enter camp and the regular season as the top quarterback on New York’s depth chart.
