Recent Bills star could be retiring from the NFL

The Buffalo Bills have went down the veteran and star route to bolster their pass rush in recent years.

Von Miller is the biggest name that did not fully pan out, mostly due to injury. Even just this offseason, Buffalo signed edge defender Bradley Chubb as a free agent.

In 2025, the marquee grab was Joey Bosa. In 15 games played last season, he notched five sacks and forced five fumbles.

Bosa signed a one-year deal with the Bills but was not re-signed. A large part of that decision from the team was a change of defensive scheme under new coordinator Jim Leonhard.

Since leaving Buffalo, the former No. 3 overall selection has not signed with another team. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bills might be the last NFL team the 30-year-old plays for.

On his podcast, the NFL insider stated that Bosa has a better chance of retiring as opposed to playing for another NFL team in 2026:

“It is more likely than not that Joey Bosa has played his last NFL down,” Schefter said. “Now, again, could a situation like the 49ers come along that entices him enough to come out and play again? Yeah, absolutely. We saw it happen last year with Philip Rivers, so you never know when a player is fully done and when he’s not done. But the fact of the matter is, I think if the Niners wanted to pair those two together, it probably would have happened already. I think if Joey Bosa wanted to play football, it probably would have happened already.”

That could change down the line, but as of now, Bosa sounds done with football.

Bills Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
