Police investigate shooting, head injury at Monticello complex

One man was shot in the foot and another was cut on the head in what village police are calling a “disturbance” on July 4 at the Monticello Housing Authority complex on Evergreen Drive.

According to village police, officers responded to the scene at 10:50 p.m. on July 4 and encountered a crowd of 150-200 people in the area.

They found a 32-year-old man with a severe cut on his head.

They dispersed the crowd with assistance from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.

Officers also learned that a 51-year-old man was being treated at Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills in Harris for a gunshot wound to his right foot that had also occurred during the disturbance.

Both victims declined to cooperate with investigators or provide any information as to how their injuries occurred.
