Penn Yan bicyclist, 62, killed in Schuyler County crash, Sheriff's Office says

A 62-year-old Yates County man was killed in a bicycle crash on Sunday, Oct. 19 in the Schuyler County town of Tyrone, the sheriff’s office said on Oct. 20.

Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office investigators said the accident took place at approximately 4:45 p.m. on state Route 230, near Crystal Valley Road, in Tyrone.

According to a preliminary investigation, cyclist Leroy Sensenig of Penn Yan was northbound on Route 230 when he struck another bicycle traveling with him.

The sheriff’s office said Sensenig was ejected from his bike by the impact, resulting in a severe head injury.

Fire and EMS personnel responded to the location. Life saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office said, with Sensenig pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported. The sheriff’s office said the incident remains under investigation.
