The New York Giants have released veteran kicker Jason Sanders, reports ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
Sanders signed with the Giants as a free agent in early March, and he spent just over three months in New York before being released. The former Dolphins kicker spent the first seven years of his career in Miami, but a severe hip injury kept Sanders sidelined for the entire 2025 campaign and ultimately ended his career with the Dolphins.
Sanders was widely regarded as the favorite to win the Giants’ starting kicker role. New York’s kicking competition will now come down to undrafted free agent Dominic Zvada and former Pittsburgh Steeler Ben Sauls, as each kicker is young and has excellent potential.
Sanders’ release from the Giants may come as a surprise to many. The veteran kicker was expected to compete and emerge as the favorite for the starting role throughout training camp, but New York has opted to part ways with the former Dolphin just three months after signing him in free agency.
Sanders could quickly find a new home in free agency, but the Giants’ starting kicker in 2026 will now more than likely be either Zvada or Sauls following the announcement.
