National chain Maman to open its first location in Westchester

Maman, an all-day cafe known for its blue and white signature china, its nutty chocolate chip cookie (named an Oprah favorite) and its rustic-chic, floral-filled design, is opening its first Westchester store sometime this spring/summer in Rye.

The lifestyle brand, inspired by the South of France, is coming to 64 Purchase Street, where The Snackery had been. When open, the 2,000-square-foot cafe will feature vintage furnishings, wooden farm tables, imported tiles and decorative details along with custom toile-printed espresso machines and floral installations by Floratorium.

Along with its attention to detail, the new cafe will feature the brand’s full espresso and tea menu, a wide selection of housemade pastries, and made-to-order savory items including salads, wraps, sandwiches, soups and more.

The company, which Elisa Marshall and Benjamin Sormonte started in Soho in 2014, has 55 locations nationwide. Though NYC was originally its primary focus, the company has since expanded to South Florida/Miami, Dallas, Washington, DC, Jersey City, Montreal and Connecticut. Greenwich, which opened in 2023, is the closest one to Westchester. Another one, in Westport, opened last year.

According to Marshall, the group has always been intentional about growing maman in communities that reflect their values. “Rye felt like such a natural fit,” she told The Journal News/lohud. “It’s a family-oriented town with a strong sense of community, something that’s always been at the heart of maman.

“Over the past few years, we’ve also seen so many of our loyal customers make the move to this area, and we’re really excited to be closer to them and create a beautiful space where they can gather, slow down, and feel at home.”
