More than 70 animals are now in the care of Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, after they were removed from a Chili home June 16 following reports of possible neglect and cruelty.
72 cats and two dogs removed from Chili home
The agency said animal welfare investigators conducted a search warrant at a residence on Bellmawr Drive on June 16 and removed 72 cats and two dogs from the home to “protect their health and well-being.” The animals were transported to Lollypop Farm for veterinary evaluations and ongoing care.
Lollypop Farm leads large-scale rescue effort
Reno DiDomenico, the agency’s vice president for humane law enforcement, said cases involving large numbers of animals are among the most challenging to coordinate. Lollypop Farm serves as the region’s only humane law enforcement agency, covering multiple counties across the Greater Rochester area and responding to thousands of calls each year.
“While our investigators work to address concerns and ensure compliance with New York State law, our shelter and veterinary teams mobilize to provide lifesaving care and ongoing support,” DiDomenico said in a statement. “We remain committed to helping them begin the path toward recovery.”
Investigation ongoing, no charges yet announced
An investigation is ongoing and no charges were immediately announced.
Anyone with concerns about potential animal cruelty or neglect can contact Lollypop Farm’s Animal Abuse Hotline at (585) 223-6500.
