Man killed in Long Island Memorial Day crash identified

New York State Police have identified the man killed in a one-vehicle crash on a Long Island highway on Memorial Day.

Fatal crash on Northern State Parkway

Troopers said the crash occurred on the westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway, near the New Highway overpass, Exit 46, around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 25. The crash occurred in Smithtown, Suffolk County.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the convertible car “split in half,” according to State Police. The driver, troopers said, was thrown from the vehicle.

Factors in fatal crash

“Erratic operation and unsafe speed” were both considered contributing factors in the fatal crash, according to State Police.

Driver identified

Salvatore Sparacino IV, 29, of Smithtown, was identified Tuesday as the driver who died in Monday’s crash, troopers said. He was alone in the car.

Troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash.
