A woman in her 40s died in a head-on crash near the Main Street Armory in Rochester over the holiday weekend.
Head-on crash on East Main Street in Rochester
An eastbound car struck a westbound sport utility vehicle head-on on East Main Street, near Prince Street, around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, according to Rochester Police Capt. Greg Bello. It was initially reported that people were trapped in the two, heavily damaged vehicles.
Injuries and fatalities
Both drivers were alone in their respective vehicles and were unresponsive after the crash, Bello said. Both drivers were removed from their vehicles and were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
The SUV driver – a woman in her 40s whose name was not released – died from her injuries at the hospital, Bello said.
The second driver – a woman in her 30s – suffered serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Bello said. That driver’s identity was also not revealed by police.
What’s next
Officers from RPD’s Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances of the fatal crash. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call 911.
