A Rochester man accused of attacking a 16-year-old girl with a machete Friday morning has been charged with multiple felonies, including attempted murder, police said.
Teen seriously injured in machete attack
Officers responded to a home on St. Paul Street near Avenue A around 7:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, after receiving a report that a man was attacking another person with a machete, Rochester Police Department Capt. Greg Bello said.
When officers arrived, they found the 16-year-old girl lying on the kitchen floor with severe lacerations to multiple parts of her body. Officers immediately applied two life-saving tourniquets before she was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, Bello said.
Victim’s injuries described as life-altering
The teen underwent emergency surgery, police said.
Her injuries were described as “life-altering” but are no longer considered life-threatening because of the quick actions of first responders, Bello said. An updated condition was not immediately available.
Rochester man charged
Steven McFadden-Sanchez, 44, of Rochester, was taken into custody at the scene. He was charged with:
He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday night in CAP Court.
Police say attack was not random
Investigators said the attack does not appear to have been random.
McFadden-Sanchez and the teen were acquaintances who had known each other “for a short period of time” before the alleged assault, Bello said.
Police did not release additional details about the relationship or what may have led to the attack.
