Anaheim, Calif. — Bailey Horn’s season is over before it ever got started.
Horn, the lefty reliever who struck out 10 in 11.1 innings last season, underwent reconstruction surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow on Wednesday. The surgery was performed in Dallas by Dr. Keith Meister.
Horn, 28, has not pitched this season because of inflammation in the elbow.
In other injury/rehab news:
Second baseman Gleyber Torres (oblique) was scheduled to play rehab games in Fort Myers with Low-A Lakeland Friday and Saturday. Initially, he was going to transfer his assignment to Triple-A Toledo. But the smoke from the Canadian wildfires forced the change of venue. Torres had spent the All-Star break continuing his work in Lakeland.
RHP Jackson Jobe is going to make another rehab start this weekend. It hasn’t been determined where, either Lakeland or Double-A Erie.
RHP Burch Smith (shoulder) was scheduled to make a rehab appearance Friday with Lakeland.
Tigers at Angels
When: 10:07 p.m., Saturday, Angels Stadium, Anaheim, Calif.
TV/radio: Detroit Sports Net, 97.1, 107.9
LHP Tarik Skubal (5-4, 3.06), Tigers: This begins a potentially pivotal three-week stretch for Skubal and the Tigers. This is one of three starts he is expected to make before the Aug. 3 trade deadline. It’s also the second of a critical 13-game stretch for the Tigers in their quest to remain in the playoff hunt and compel president Scott Harris to buy and not sell at the deadline.
RHP Grayson Rodriguez (3-2, 7.55), Angels: He is still trying to get back to form after missing 2025 with elbow surgery and having this season stunted and limited to seven starts with back tightness. He soldiered through 5.1 innings (three runs, six hits) against the Twins in his return off the IL before the break. At 6-5 and with 7-2 extension, his 96-mph four-seam fastball is a weapon, as are the changeup and slider he throws off it.
