A team has to start somewhere. The Brooklyn Nets are destined to begin another painful year of a rebuild in the 2025-26 season as they look to piece things together for the future. The Nets made five selections in the first round of the draft back in June and expect those players to develop quickly under the guidance of coach Jordi Fernandez.
The Nets won’t win many games in 2025-26, but they should play hard. That is the tell-tale sign of whether a team is moving forward. It comes down to the effort they give on a nightly basis as the losses continue to pile up. Fernandez’s Nets played hard every night in 2024-25 despite the 26-56 season. That is something to look forward.
In an interview with The New York Post, Nets legend Vince Carter gave his reason for positivity in the coming season:
“Well, one thing I want to give Jordi [Fernandez] credit for is he has his teams playing hard,” Vince Carter told Sports+ before flying to Macao to join the Nets (and Suns) for the NBA China Games. “And I think at the end of the day, the organization, and even fans — obviously it’s hard to [make everybody happy].
As mentioned, a team has to start somewhere. Fernandez has to lay the groundwork down for the Nets to push them forward toward winning and that is going to be something to keep an eye on in 2025-26. No, not wins. Culture. Setting a standard on a nightly basis. That is something Brooklyn can continue to count on.
