If you hear chickens on Main Street in Binghamton May 9, here’s why

Drivers and pedestrians on Binghamton’s Main Street may be surprised to hear the sounds of chickens around lunchtime May 9.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals will have its “Hell on Wheels” truck in the area to urge people to become vegan by playing audio of chickens crying.

In a news release, PETA said the truck will be parked near Kennedy Fried Chicken at noon on May 9. The location is in close proximity to other restaurants including Popeye’s, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Danny’s Diner, Piccolo’s Cafe and Subway.

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement the truck, which has traveled throughout the United States, aims to convince people to become vegan.

“Behind every plate of fried chicken is a once-living, sensitive individual who was crammed onto a truck for a terrifying, miserable journey to their death,” said Reiman. “PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ truck is an appeal to anyone who eats chicken or eggs to remember that these industries are cruel to birds and hazardous to human health and that the only kind meal is a vegan one.”
