BATTLE CREEK — Binder Park Zoo is celebrating its 50th anniversary, having opened for the season May 1.
The zoo has hosted more than 10 million visitors since it opened in 1975.
“With our mission to Connect. Inspire. Conserve. Connect people with nature. Inspire them to conserve. The zoo’s vision continues to turn apathy into empathy and compassion into action through unforgettable experiences,” the zoo said in a press release.
Binder Park Zoo’s 50th anniversary season will be filled events, including the Cheetah Chase 5K on Saturday, June 21, and Wild Wednesdays, with the zoo staying open late until 8 p.m. every Wednesday in July. It will also be offering a brand-new lineup of live music performances to add to the atmosphere.
And, for the first time since 2019, Tour de Zoo will make its long-awaited return, inviting cyclists of all skill levels to enjoy a wild ride through the zoo. The event season wraps up with the popular Corks & Kegs at the Zoo event on Saturday, Sept. 6, an evening of craft beverage tastings, food, and live entertainment set against the zoo’s backdrop.
“We are thrilled to open our gates for our 50th season and to continue inspiring guests with new experiences and our ongoing commitment to conservation,” said Diane Thompson, president & CEO at Binder Park Zoo. “This is a special year, and we look forward to celebrating it with the community that has supported us for half a century.”
