Hall rolls 811 series, Kennedy hits for 300 game at Crystal Lanes

Over the past couple of months, it’d be hard to find a bowler who has been as hot as Jason Hall. He has quietly been racking up 700 after 700 during action in Tire World of Corning League. But he didn’t throw 700 this week. Jason kicked it up a notch or two and registered the fourth 800 series of the season at Crystal Lanes. He joins JR Fleming (just last week), Cameron Kennedy and from the senior circuit, Al Farr, in that exclusive 800 circle.

Jason got off to a great start in the Tire World League with games of 267 and 265. He conquered the lane adjustment that usually occurs in the third game and closed with his best effort of the night, a 279 game to finish with an 811 series, his first 800 in the Corning Association. Obviously, that gave him scoring honors for the week.

There were also four other dudes in the Tire World League over 700. Mark Ribble opened a 761 series with a 287 game while Nick Dobson closed a 743 set with a 279 game and John Stermer matched that 743 with one of his own. Mike Brewster’s 729, that featured a 279 nightcap, made it a quartet.

Another Kennedy fires a 300 game

For the second week in a row, a member of the Kennedy clan has registered a perfect game. This time it was Cameron Kennedy stringing 12 in a row in the Hatfield Real Estate Men’s League for his first 300 game in the adult leagues. His dad was part of that team last week that set the city record with a 3,840 total that featured Jamie’s perfect effort.

Cameron sandwiched his perfect game with a 202 and 210 to finish with a 712 series, which was one of a half dozen 700s tossed in the Hatfield League. Derik Lisi led the league with a 741 series while Steve Crozier (junior version) fashioned a 270 game on his way to a 725 and Donovan Austin-Reed capped a 718 set with a 279 game. Mike Brewster featured another 279 game on his way to a 714 series and Ron Gunn fired that same Ruthian number to finish the quintet.

There were a dozen guys over seven in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League with Jason Huntley at the top of the heap with a 749 that ended with a 297 game. Gasp. Mike Kosinski powered his way to a 738 set while Josh Swithers banked a 735 series and Chuck Stefanini rode a 267 game to a 713. Tim DeGraw and Mitch Kelly closed the 700 action with scores of 712 and 705 respectively.

In other men’s league action, Al Farr and Craig Hall both topped seven in the Tyoga Container/Cortright Mixed League. Al led the league with a 738 and Craig pitched in with a 706 set. Chris Besemer’s 722 was the top score in the Monday Night Mixed League and Shawn Goodier rolled a 701 series in the Spring Adult/Junior Mixed League where Owen Watson led the juniors with a 620 series.

Blanford leads ladies

There were ten scores over the 600 mark for the ladies this week and Samantha Blanford recorded two of them, including the top score. Shocker. Three other ladies also garnered a pair of sixes this week.

Samantha grabbed the ladies honors with her performance in the Monday Night Mixed League. She opened and closed a 686 series with games of 226 and managed to squeeze a 234 game in the middle of that effort. Later in the week she paced the ladies in the Joey’s League with a 643 series.

Heather Farr had a pair of sixes this week. She notched runner-up honors for the ladies by leading the Gabe’s Grille Ladies League with a 660 series on games of 244, 201 and 215. This league also saw Dakota Evans post a 658 series while Kiana Baker came away with a 601 set.

Cheryl Rice also carved up two 600s this week. She led the Magic Rags Cleaning Service Ladies League with a 634 series that featured a 266 game and later in the week, she topped the ladies in the Ruth Briggs Memorial Mixed League with a 608 total.

Anita Gennosa celebrated her induction into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame this past weekend with a pair of sixes. She paced the ladies in the Tyoga Container League with a 620 series and then added a 605 set in Joey’s League.

DeGraw’s 792 leads the seniors

Two ringing 10 pins was all that kept Tim DeGraw from registering the second senior 800 series of the season and a second perfect game. Tim kicked off the action in the Chilson-Wilcox Senior Men’s League with a resounding 277 game. He opened the second game with the first 11 before a ringing 10 pin cost him perfection. With that 299 game and his 277 opener, Tim needed a 224 final game for eight. Coming into the tenth frame, Tim needed the first two strikes to secure his 800. He buried the first one. Ten in the pit. He buried the second one. Nine in the pit and a stubborn 10 pin staring him in the face. That was enough to deny him the eight but 792 is a helluva consolation prize. If Crystal Lanes is missing a 10 pin, if wouldn’t surprise anyone.

Lost in the hoopla of Tim’s performance were six other guys in the league over 600. Al Farr and Dom Lisi led that six-pack with scores of 684 and 680 while Bruce Stanton was right behind them with a 679 set. John Stermer fashioned a 674 series while Mike Goltry rolled a 624 and John Olson hit six right on the mark.

In other senior action, Rich Granger paced the Striking Seniors Mixed League with a 674 series on games of 247, 222 and 205 while teammate John Olson kicked in a 650 set and Kevin Swan tossed a 630. Don Pierce topped the Go-Getters Mixed League with a 669 series and Don Machuga wasn’t far behind with his 659 total.
