The last full week of the regular season didn’t disappoint, spotlighting some long-awaited matchups of elite teams. The slate of games was highlighted by some surprising results and several outstanding individual performances. With that, we’ve got 11 candidates for Girls Lacrosse Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.
Our previous poll winners this season were Sofia Conners (Somers), Fin Degl (John Jay-Cross River), Emily Butler (Tappan Zee), Amelia Walsh (Brewster), Olivia Saccomanno (Brewster), Lauren Rogers (White Plains) and Ella Wendol (Putnam Valley).
Read below about what the nominees accomplished last week, then cast your votes. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, and the winner will be featured on lohud sports social media accounts.
Alex Benvenuto, Clarkstown South
The junior had nine goals and two assists and contributed defensively by leading the team in caused turnovers and groundballs as the Vikings put forth a four-game win streak.
Lucy Bevilacqua, Mamaroneck
The junior had three goals, two assists and seven draw controls for the Tigers in a 14-12 win over surging Brewster. She also had three goals and three assists in their win over Lakeland/Panas.
Alexis Diaz, Albertus Magnus
The junior committed to Maryland had nine goals and an assist to lead the Falcons in a 14-5 win over Dobbs Ferry.
Scarlett Gristina, Pelham
The sophomore goalkeeper made 13 saves, including the 300th of her career, in the Pelicans’ 22-10 win over Pleasantville on Saturday.
Georgina Janos, Briarcliff
She had eight goals and two assists to lead the Bears in a 13-5 win over North Salem.
Blythe Leahy, Clarkstown North
The senior made 19 saves against Pawling last Tuesday, reaching 693 for her career, which is second most in state history, according to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association record book.
Elle Mason, Rye Country Day
She had five goals and four draw controls, helping lead the Wildcats to a 13-9 win over Greenwich Academy in the Fairchester Athletic Association championship game.
Rachel Melly, Eastchester
The junior scored six goals in a 13-8 upset of Wappingers on Saturday. With that win, the Eagles finish the regular season 13-3, a five-win improvement over last season.
Paige Pena, Ossining
The senior scored a career-high 10 goals along with two assists, five groundballs and a caused turnover in the Pride’s win over New Rochelle.
Sydney Sateriale, Yorktown
The sophomore had eight goals and an assist for the Huskers in a 16-10 win over Pelham on Thursday. She also had six goals, three assists and 10 draw controls in their win over previously undefeated Pleasantville last Tuesday.
Annie Toulouse, Rye
The Georgetown-bound senior totaled eight goals and five assists in the Garnets’ wins over Ursuline and Pleasantville last week.
