A 14-year-old girl was struck by a school bus on the morning of Wednesday, July 23, in Bergen County, New Jersey.
The incident occurred shortly around 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Anderson Avenue and County Road in Demarest. According to police, the girl was jogging when she was hit by a school bus operated by First Student, Inc.
The teen was airlifted by medevac helicopter to a nearby hospital. Her condition had not been released as of Friday.
The bus was en route to Camp Ramaquois in Pomona at the time of the crash. No passengers on the bus were injured.
In a statement, First Student, Inc. said the driver had been removed from service while the company conducts an internal review.
“Our thoughts are with all who were affected,” wrote Brenna Rudisill, manager of strategic communications for First Student, Inc. “We are working collaboratively with local law enforcement.”
Camp Ramaquois issued a statement acknowledging the incident.
“A bus owned and operated by an independent bus company struck a pedestrian while transporting campers on their normal route to camp,” wrote Jared Gelb, Director of Camp Ramaquois. “We are wishing a speedy and full recovery to the person who was injured.”
The Demarest, New Jersey, police department had not responded to a request for comment as of Friday afternoon.
