If anyone was wondering if there would be any lingering hard feelings spilling over from the New York Giants’ Tuesday practice, where quarterback Jaxson Dart spiked a football off the helmet of cornerback Greg Newsome II after scoring a touchdown, think again.
It will take more than that to start a rift among this group. On Wednesday, Newsome laughed off the incident when reporters mentioned it to him.
“Nah, I was mad,” Newsome said. “But like I said, I’m a guy that chirps. I like stuff like that. So, we were laughing at lunch about it literally after practice yesterday. So, we were about to post a little selfie because I seen it got on ESPN and stuff. So, it was fun. It was funny. I like the aggression. I like that with my quarterback. So, it’s all good.”
The touchdown came on a running play. The defense has to let up on the ball carriers at this stage of camp, especially ones wearing the red jerseys.
“I mean, when he gets close to the end zone, he scores. I’m telling him, he’s not going to score,” said Newsome. “So, there’s obviously going to be some back and forth all the time. But like I said, iron sharpens iron. It’s hot outside. It’s day whatever of camp; emotions get high. So, it was fun.”
End of story, for now.
Head coach John Harbaugh was not pleased with the incident, but his objections apparently reached the players.
