“You see how this looks, right?”
That’s Robert Pattinson as “To Catch a Predator” host Chris Hansen in “Primetime,” the new thriller based on the former hit TV show where Hansen and his crew would seek to catch adults who were trying to meet teens online. After a teaser for the movie was released in May, the first full length trailer arrived on Thursday.
Pattinson stars as Hansen, the Metro Detroit-raised journalist who started in TV news in Detroit before breaking big with “Predator.”
Hansen was born in Chicago and was raised in Birmingham and West Bloomfield Township. He graduated from Michigan State and he had stints at both WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) and WDIV-TV (Channel 4) before becoming an NBC News correspondent and, eventually, the host of “To Catch a Predator.”
“To Catch a Predator” ran on NBC from 2004 to 2007 and featured Hansen in sting operations designed to catch sexual predators. The movie was also the subject of “Predators,” a documentary released in 2025.
Hansen, 66, currently hosts “Dangerous Games – A Chris Hansen Investigation,” which airs on TruBlu, a streaming service which he co-founded.
Pattinson is having quite a year, after starring in “The Drama,” as well as current his role in “The Odyssey.” Still to come, he has “Dune: Part Three” and “Here Comes the Flood” due out later this year.
“Primetime,” which hits theaters on Sept. 25, is directed by documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim (“Some Kind of Heaven”) and marks his first scripted feature.
Skyler Gisondo (“Superman”), Merritt Wever (“Nurse Jackie”) and singer-actress Phoebe Bridgers co-star.
