Weeks after a devastating fire swept through the Hudson River Psychiatric Center, crews continue to battle with lingering hot spots.
On June 19, another fire was reported at the Hudson River Psychiatric Administration building in a Facebook post by Dutchess County Fire and Rescue Services.
Fairview Fire District Chief Justin Bohlmann said that was related to the original prolonged and complex structure fire that broke out the afternoon of June 3.
In the main administration building, multiple floors of the structure — in some areas up to five stories — have fallen into the basement.
With the magnitude of the collapse, Bohlmann said, there remains a significant amount of debris not safely accessible to fire personnel.
“As a result, isolated pockets of heat persist within the structure,” Bohlmann said. “When environmental conditions change, particularly with wind, these areas can periodically re-ignite and become visible. These flare-ups are often reported by employees or individuals monitoring the property and are then reassessed by responding agencies.”
In terms of the investigation into the cause of the fire, it remains active and ongoing.
“At this time, there are no new updates beyond what has previously been shared publicly,” Bohlmann said.
However, anyone with information related to this incident should contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s tip line at 845-485-3666.
Bohlmann said if any additional verified information becomes available, updates will be provided accordingly.
