Fatal motorcycle crash leaves one dead in upstate NY

One person was killed and a second was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Marcellus, Onondaga County, on Sunday morning.

A two-vehicle crash occurred at Route 20 and Slate Hill Road in Marcellus around 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, June 21, according to New York State Police.

A northbound car (on Slate Hill Road) had stopped at the crossroads but reportedly failed to yield the right-of-way to an eastbound motorcycle and the two collided, Trooper Jennifer Jiron said in a news release.

Motorcycle’s passenger dies

The pair on the motorcycle were thrown from the motorcycle and taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment

The motorcyclist was identified as Bruce Stratton and his passenger was Karyn Stratton, troopers said. Karyn Stratton, 55, of Farmington, Ontario County, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Bruce Stratton, also 55 and from Farmington, remained hospitalized Monday with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the car – an 18-year-old from Jefferson County – was not injured in the crash, according to State Police.

What’s next

Troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash. Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Marcellus Police Department, Marcellus Ambulance and Marcellus Fire Department all assisted at the scene.
