Ex-New York Giants LB Michael Barrow arrested for accidentally punching wife

Former New York Giants linebacker Michael Barrow was arrested on Tuesday and charged with three counts of first-degree misdemeanor domestic touch or strike/battery, reports the New York Post.

Barrow was taken into custody after a wild family fight erupted at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. During the melee, the 1993 second-round pick allegedly struck his wife, Shelley, in the face inadvertently.

The punch, intended for another member of the family, was eventually delivered.

Barrow, 55, was involved in an argument with family members that ramped up considerably at the airport when the former University of Miami star threw a punch and inadvertently hit his wife, Shelley, in the face, according to multiple reports.

Barrow remained undeterred, allegedly punching the initial target of his ire “in the face with a closed fist” according to TMZ.

On Wednesday, Barrow entered a plea of not guilty.

Barrow’s arrest comes just weeks after he addressed the Giants early in training camp, challenging the players in East Rutherford to “be great.”

After spending the first four seasons of his career with the Houston Oilers, Barrow joined the Carolina Panthers (1997-1999) before signing with the Giants in 2000. He remained with Big Blue through the 2003 season before wrapping up his NFL career with the Washington Redskins (2004) and Dallas Cowboys (2005).

Following his retirement, Barrow coached on several levels, most recently with the Seattle Seahawks as an assistant head coach and linebackers coach (2017).
