The Dallas Cowboys will try to do what many feel is the impossible, and knock off the Philadelphia Eagles on opening night. The Cowboys finished 2024 with a 7-10 record, missing the playoffs for the first time in four seasons. Meanwhile the Eagles not only went to the playoffs, they won the NFC East, then parlayed a No. 2 overall seed into an NFC Championship before knocking off the two-time defending champ Kansas City Chiefs.
To do so, the Eagles relied on one of the more complete rosters in the NFL. They boast six Pro Bowl players from last season, and that list didn’t include their QB-WR duo, with QB Jalen Hurts winning Super Bowl LIX MVP. The other part of that pairing, AJ Brown, is one of the league’s best wideouts, but his status throughout the summer has been iffy as he’s been dealing with a hamstring injury.
It would help the Cowboys long-odds chances if they didn’t have to face him on Thursday Night.
Alas, that will not be the case. Despite missing a lot of time in training camp with the bum leg, Brown did not carry an injury designation this week, and barring a sudden last-minute setback, the three-time Pro Bowler and three-time Second-Team All-Pro will be in the starting lineup.
Brown had his third-straight 1,000-yard campaign in 2024, going three for three since joining the Eagles in a 2022 draft-day trade with the Tennessee Titans. He played in just 13 games last year, catching 67 passes for 1,079 yards and scoring seven receiving touchdowns.
His frustrations with the Eagles’ passing offense were well chronicled, including him breaking out reading material while on the bench, showing his disdain for the gameplan that didn’t focus on him. That clearly was reconciled as Brown helped hoist the Lombardi with his strong NFC Championship performance in a win over the Washington Commanders, catching six passes for 96 yards and a score. He caught three passes and scored another touchdown in the Super Bowl win.
