Movie theaters in New York and across the country will soon be filled with what some may say is this year’s newest fashion statement!
In anticipation of the May 1 release of “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” a sequel to the 2006 comedy, AMC Theatres, Cinemark and Fandango announced exclusive movie merchandise, including a pair of sunglasses, a limited-edition promotional runway magazine, a wine tumbler and a bright red handbag-shaped popcorn bucket that has taken the internet by storm.
Fandango’s handbag-shaped popcorn buckets sold out on March 12, according to the ticketing brand’s Instagram, but fans are still eager to get a popcorn bag of their own.
“I need the popcorn purse more than I need oxygen,” one Instagram user commented on AMC Theatres’ Instagram post promoting the merchandise.
“When I saw this popcorn bucket, I nearly died,” content creator Joseph Bryant said in a TikTok video reviewing the new merchandise. “Now, I did ask myself, Joe, why are you going to get a purse popcorn bucket? Well, I don’t know, but I want it and I’m going to get it, I hope.”

Recently, wacky movie-themed popcorn buckets have become a fan favorite at movie theaters, like the sandworm-like bucket for “Dune Part Two,” disappearing illusion box for “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” and baby sling carrier for “Despicable Me 4,” worn on the front of the chest.
The popcorn bucket hype has returned for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” bucket, which is shaped like a satchel-style handbag.
The 85-ounce bright red bucket is decorated with two charms, including the signature “Devil Wears Prada” stiletto with a pitchfork heel. It fits a large portion of popcorn and can be refilled for free on the same day of purchase, according to a Cinemark Instagram post.
When will the handbag popcorn bucket become available in NY?
AMC Theaters and Cinemark stated that “The Devil Wears Prada 2” handbag bucket will be available online and in theaters starting April 30.
Both theaters, however, stated that there is a very limited supply and suggested signing up through their websites for notifications for the bucket’s launch and possible pre-order opportunities.
