Colonial Days kicks off June 12 at Village Square in Painted Post. What to know.

Colonial Days, a three-day Painted Post tradition for more than 60 years, returns to the Steuben County village beginning June 12.

Robert Manning, a Painted Post Village Trustee, said the annual event kicks off at 6 p.m. on June 12 with the Miss Colonial Days Pageant in the Village Square in the heart of the Village of Painted Post.

The Miss Colonial Days Pageant dates back nearly 55 years, highlighting the talents of local young ladies ages 4-18, who will compete for a chance to win a title.

On June 13, Rock the Block in Village Square, featuring on-site vendors and the band Blue Eyed Soul, will be playing from 6 to 9 p.m., Manning said. The event, rain or shine, is open to the public and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Manning said on June 14, the traditional Colonial Days Parade, featuring several high school bands, fire departments and others, will take place at 11 a.m. using the traditional parade route of West Water and North Hamilton streets.

“Colonial Days is part of the history of Painted Post going back to 1962,” Manning said. “It’s the unofficial kick-off of summer and everyone looks forward to it every year.”

At the end of the parade the village welcomes attendees to come to Craig Park and listen to the high school bands play again under the pavilion prior to the awards ceremony at noon. A chicken barbeque will be served for $15 beginning at noon.

Manning said local talent, Kira and the Kindness, will perform at 12:30 p.m. followed by Taylor Hurd at Craig Park Pavilion.

“It’s always just a great time listening to the music and enjoying all the other things Colonial Days has to offer,” Manning said.
