Rockland’s first Chick-fil-A opens at 6:30 a.m. Aug. 14 in Nanuet — and yes it’s a drive-thru.
On the menu: a variety of sandwiches, salads, biscuits, fries and more including the chain’s traditional chicken sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, Chick-Fil-A nuggets, along with breakfast items such as a spicy chicken biscuit, hash brown scramble burrito, bacon, egg and cheese muffin, fresh fruit and berry parfait.
There’s also limited edition specials such as the Pretzel Cheddar Club Sandwich (a choice of original, spicy or grilled filet, along with a toasted, buttery pretzel bun, lettuce, sliced tomato, cheddar cheese, strips of applewood smoked bacon and a side of dijon mustard sauce) and a variety of Cherry Berry sodas.
Also new (and a permanent item): Chick-fil-A Sauce Flavored Waffle Potato Chips inspired by the brand’s signature smoky and tangy sauce.
Located at 70 E. Route 59, the new restaurant also offers dine-in (there’s capacity for 100 including patio seating), carry-out, delivery and catering. It’s owned by Ellie Kim who for many years lived in New City before relocating to open her first Chick-fil-A in 2006 in Washington, D.C. She led that restaurant until 2018 when she came to Manhattan to open Chick-fil-A near Grand Central Station.
A former attorney, Kim was introduced to Chick-fil-A through friends who had become local owner-operators, sparking her interest in the brand and inspiring her to pursue a career with the company.
“What excites me most,” said Kim, “Beyond being back in a community where much of my family still lives, is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with local schools, first responders, businesses, and, of course, the residents of Nanuet. My goal is to create a welcoming space where the community feels at home.”
To that end she’s committed to giving back to the Nanuet community by participating in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, which redirects surplus food to local nonprofits, helping to create over 35 million meals nationwide to date. And she’ll be celebrating the opening with a $25,000 donation to Feeding America, with funds distributed to partners in the greater New York area to aid in the fight against hunger.
Chick-fil-A — the third largest quick-service restaurant company in the United States according to a press release — has 3,000 restaurants across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Two of those opened last year in Westchester, namely Yonkers and Scarsdale. And more are coming, including in Europe and Asia. The brand opened its first restaurant in the UK earlier this year with the goal of launching five locations across the UK within the next two years. Later this year, its first Singapore restaurant is set to open, marking the brand’s entry into Asia.
Chick-fil-A is known for staffing its stores with local owner-operators who live and work in the communities their restaurants serve. The family-owned and privately held company was founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy.
