Charlie Sullivan leads Westchester/Putnam boys track and field stars

This region is known for regularly producing some of the state’s top high school track and field athletes, and, sometimes, some of the nation’s best. Charlie Sullivan

Westchester/Putnam Boys Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year

School: Somers

Year: Senior

Highlights: After repeating as Westchester champion, Sullivan, whose favorite event is the hammer (thrown outdoors in spring), won both the state public and state Federation (all schools) boys weight throw title for a second straight year. He went on to medal at Nike Indoor Nationals for a second straight time. His top throw of 76 feet. 4.5 inches, recorded in March at Nike, put him No. 2 in New York and No. 9 in the country for the season and No. 6 all-time in New York among high school boys. That throw was more than 41 feet farther than his top throw his freshman year, which is when he first threw the weight and fell in love with the event without an inkling of where it would take him. Sullivan, who was also named Westchester/Putnam Boys Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year for the 2024-25 season, will throw for Div. I University of Wisconsin next year after passing on offers from several other prominent Div. I schools, including Princeton and Texas.
