Car-dump truck crash kills Greene County man in Saugerties

A Greene County man was killed June 4 when his car collided with a dump truck in the Town of Saugerties.

According to Saugerties police, the collision happened at approximately 1 p.m. June 4 at the intersection of Route 32 and Old Route 32.

The car, a 2022 Volkswagen driven by a 73-year-old man from Catskill in Greene County, was traveling south when it collided with a 1988 Freightliner dump truck driven by a 57-year-old man from Palenville, also in Greene County.

The 73-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released by police, was treated at the scene by members of the Centerville Fire Department and Diaz Ambulance.

He was then transported to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, where he died from his injuries.

The investigation into the crash by the Saugerties Police Department is continuing, with assistance from state police and the Collision Reconstruction Team of the Ulster County District Attorney’s office.
