A Brookfield man has been charged with robbing the NBT Bank on Seneca Turnpike, according to the New Hartford Police Department.
At around 9:45 a.m. on March 4, New Hartford police officers responded to a 911 call of a reported armed robbery in progress at the bank. Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspect had fled the area in a vehicle.
Officers continued to search the area for the suspect, process evidence in the interior of the bank and interview witnesses.
It was reported to police that the suspect entered NBT Bank and handed a bank teller a note indicating he was armed with a gun and made a demand for money, police said. The suspect fled the bank with several thousand dollars.
New Hartford Police Criminal Investigation Division investigators also responded to the scene and conducted a follow up investigation on information that was available, eventually coming to the point of identifying the suspect as Shane Stevens, 45, of North Brookfield.
Police began to track Stevens and while doing so, the Utica Police Department responded to a business on Schuyler Street in the City of Utica as the suspect was reportedly there at this time.
New Hartford officers subsequently took Stevens into custody with the Utica Police Department’s assistance, authorities said.
Stevens was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery.
He was processed at The New Hartford Police Department and then transported to The Oneida County Jail to await arraignment in The Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Part Court.
