Recent Army graduate Andrew Berg has been picked up by the Chicago White Sox organization, though he has not been assigned to a minor-league affiliate as of yet.
Since graduation, Berg has appeared 15 times with the MLB Draft League’s Trenton Thunder, posting a 0.75 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 24 innings.
At West Point, Berg was part of three regular-season Patriot League championship seasons and two tournament titles. This season Berg made 13 starts, achieving six innings in all but three. He led the Black Knights staff with a 4.03 ERA, 58 strikeouts and 82.2 innings pitched. He was selected as a second-team Patriot all-star.
Berg becomes the 25th West Point graduate to achieve status as a baseball pro. Older brother Derek was a 10th-round MLB Draft pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and recent standouts Tanner Greshman and Sam Ruta received free agent opportunities with the Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals, respectively.
