A handful of Hornell Steamers were named to the NYCBL All-Star team in the West Division, highlighted by local product Markus Brehm.
Brehm, a Wayland native, attends Finger Lakes Community College. In 27 games played for Hornell this summer, Brehm is hitting a scorching .384 at the plate, with 17 doubles, two home runs, 21 RBI and 34 runs scored. Brehm has also swiped 17 bags on the base paths.
Other Hornell All-Star selections included Hayden Hernandez (LSU-Eunice), Cooper McEnroe (Northwestern State), Austin Ellis (Northwestern State), Caleb Cassidy (Pomona Pitzer) and Caleb Wilson (Finger Lakes CC).
The NYCBL All-Star game was hosted at Onondaga CC July 14.
At the All-Star break, Hornell currently sits fourth in the six-team West Division with a record of 13-15-3. The Genesee Rapids lead the division at the break at 22-9-1, followed by the Dansville Gliders (17-14) and Olean Oilers (15-11-3).
How local talent is performing for Hornell this summer
Hornell’s roster features a good number of local players continuing their baseball career at Maple City Park this summer, in addition to Brehm. Here’s how they have fared so far this season.
Wyatt Argentieri (Hornell, Genesee CC/Bethany Lutheran) is hitting .291 in 23 games, knocking a triple, two doubles and walking eight times while driving in 13 runs.
Ty Kenney (Hornell, Houghton College), has knocked nine hits with 11 walks in 43 at-bats, posting a double and seven RBI.
Andrew Davis (Hornell, Genesee CC) has tossed 13.1 innings, striking out 16 with 10 walks and 14 earned runs allowed.
Logan Hoyt (Arkport, Hilbert College) has knocked four hits in 27 at-bats, driving in six runs and walking three times.
Tyler Vogel (Wellsville, Niagara CC) has started four games and appeared in five, going 1-2 through the All-Star break. The right-hander has 14 strikeouts and 15 walks while surrendering 22 earned runs in 21.1 innings.
Catcher Alex Green (Wellsville, Finger Lakes CC) has suited up in four games for Hornell this summer, with two hits, including a double, three walks and three RBI.
Tommy DiFranco (Geneseo, Clarkson) has appeared in three games on the mound with one start, going 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA over 11 innings pitched with five strikeouts and three walks.
