The Hornell Area Humane Society will enter the new year with new leadership.
The Humane Society’s Board of Directors has named Alexandra Morsman the non-profit organization’s new executive director, the board announced Dec. 1.
Morsman is a “passionate animal advocate and proven nonprofit leader whose experience aligns perfectly” with the society’s mission, said Holly Tucker, Hornell Area Humane Society Board President.
“Her guidance will be critical as we expand access to affordable veterinary care, grow our safety net programs for pet owners in need, and launch a new strategic plan for our shelter, among other key initiatives,” said Tucker. “She will bring experience, enthusiasm, great communication skills and a fresh air to our organization. We’re thrilled to welcome Alex to our team.”
Morsman will assume leadership of the organization’s strategic direction and staff management, along with the culture, programs, services and fundraising for the HornellArea Humane Society, which has served the Hornell area since 1906.
Morsman has experience working with non-profits. She previously served as the Health and Nutrition Manager for Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc.
“It has always been important to me to work in a career field that allows me to help others, which is what drew me to non-profit work initially,” Morsman said. “Being the Executive Director of the Hornell Area Humane Society truly allows me to utilize the non-profit experience I have gained and combine that with my passion for animals, which made taking on the role a very easy choice.
“I have always personally had a love for animals and contributed through volunteering, fostering, and adopting – but I am incredibly excited to be able to make a much larger impact through this role helping homeless pets find new families, keeping animals in their homes and preventing cruelty.”
Morsman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wellness Management from State University of New York at Oswego and an Associate of Liberal Arts and Sciences degree: Humanities and Social Sciences from Corning Community College.
The Hornell Area Humane Society is an independent and community-funded shelter providing compassionate care, education, and serving as a community resource encouraging responsible pet ownership.
Its mission is to provide safe housing for animals without homes, reunite owners with lost pets, provide a comprehensive adoption program, and reduce pet overpopulation.
