New York will see a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain this weekend, with accumulating snow likely across interior mountain ranges and lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes.
Winter Weather Advisories and High Wind Warnings remain in effect for portions of western and northern New York. Strong southwest winds gusting near 60 mph Friday afternoon and evening may make travel difficult, especially inland and near ridge tops.

“A swath of heavy/wet snow is ongoing along the western flank of a storm system racing northeast through the Great Lakes,” the Weather Prediction Center wrote. “As low pressure deepens over Lake Huron Saturday night, a deformation zone of snow will envelope the northern Great Lakes.”
Meteorologists advise keeping an eye on the latest updates, as snowbands and lake-effect accumulation could produce localized heavier totals.
