3 Westchester restaurant closures include a bakery, deli and pizzeria

A popular deli known for its Italian sandwiches, a beloved pizza shop and a mother and son-run bakery are among the recent closures in Westchester, a result of rising rents, slow business, and life changes.

Generous portions and tasty Italian-American specialties were hallmarks of this deli, which closed Jan. 31. The family-run business was at 15 North Broadway since 2018.

Utica Pie Co., White Plains

Salvatore Torchia closed his five-year-old pizza shop, named for its tomato pie, an upstate pizza that originated in Utica, last July with the goal of renovating and reopening. The signage outside, in fact, still reads “Closed for renovations” but, in reality Utica Pie Co. is permanently closed, a decision that came later in the year.

“Thank you, Westchester,” wrote Torchia in a social media post, “For all the support and all of the memories.”

“It was a wonderful experience,” he told The Journal News/lohud.com. “I built everything in that place with my own hands and created something special that people loved.

“It made me very happy.”

The pizzeria, which opened in late December 2019, was at 594 Mamaroneck Ave. But, like any circle of life moment, it’s already in the works to be something else. Torchia said it’s going to be another eatery opening sometime in April, so stay tuned.

Red Door Baking Company, Montrose

After eight years as a brick and mortar and more than a decade baking wholesale, this mother and son owned bakery closed Dec. 23, 2025. They recently sold their convection ovens, Hobart mixers and more in a huge sale Feb. 1. That’s the bad news. The good news is that they’ll be doing farmers markets in May so stay tuned to their social media for details.
