As No. 9 Iowa women’s basketball (22-5, 13-3 Big Ten) comes off an emotional 62-44 Senior Day win over then-No. 5 Michigan in front of a sold-out crowd at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Feb. 22, the Hawkeyes will close out their Big Ten regular-season home slate tonight by hosting Illinois (19-8, 9-7 Big Ten).
In Sunday’s upset win over the Wolverines, sophomore Ava Heiden had a monstrous performance on both ends of the floor as she recorded her third consecutive double-double by posting 24 points on 11-for-17 shooting and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, along with 10 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
As a result of her dominance against Michigan, along with her stat lines in Iowa’s two other wins last week, the 6-foot-4 native of Sherwood, Ore., was awarded the Big Ten Player of the Week, Naismith Trophy Player of the Week, Associated Press (AP) National Player of the Week, and USBWA National Player of the Week honors.
